For anyone setting up a company website, they will know the importance of a good recognisable logo. Most large companies are recognisable just from their logos and yours should be no different.  You may not have the marketing budget of these large corporations, however there is no reason that you cant get a good cheap logo design that will help to sell your product or website.

You need to start by focusing on the main purpose of your website.  Is it an ecommerce website, or is it more of an informative site or perhaps it is a discussion forum.  It is important that you ask yourself what the purpose of the website is and what it is that you want your logo to convey.

Once you have decided what you need from your logo the next step is to do a bit of research on websites in a similar niche to yours to see how they go about using logos to market themselves.  Most web based companies will have a logo based around some sort of text representation of their name.  Simple examples of this are Ebay and of course, Amazon.Once you have completed all your research then you can start sketching out some ideas.Get all your ideas down on paper, even the stupid ideas.Try to fo at least 10-20 sketches and try to include some simple graphics, making sure that you don’t forget to include the name.

Don’t overcomplicate your logo and make sure that you keep it nice and simple.  Good logo can be read quickly and when someone sees it they should be able to think of your company or logo straight away.  Pay close attention to any typefaces you are using (people usually refer to the typeface as the ‘font’).Once you have a good number of ideas down narrow it down on paper to a handful of your favourites then pick on that ‘jumps out’ at you.

If you are drawing by hand then try to recreate your logo design using your computer and photoshop. If you aren’t all that confident with paint packages then hire the services of someone who is.  Once it has been completed, save it as a .jpeg .png file where it will be ready for you to upload it ready for use on your website!
