There are lots of myths surrounding search engine optimization. The algorithms change frequently, rendering the most well researched “tactics” that used to work earlier to topple miserably. SEO is all about continuously striving for betterment.

Out of the hundreds of techniques that may or may not work, here are a few that always produces great results.

Frequent Updates By keeping the content on your website fresh, you will gradually reach the top of the search results. This is because search engines always want to provide the latest info to their visitors.

Visitors Want Quality Content Why would you want someone to come to your website? To buy something? Yeah… but that is only AFTER they see what you got to offer on your website. People visit search engines to find information. By providing people what they want, you will gain what you want.

Meta tags Use Meta tags. They are the invisible tags and the search engines can identify them for categorization of content. Do not stuff your meta data with keywords. Use your commonsense and put whatever is necessary.

Heading tag Make use of heading tags, H1 and H2. Add one or two headings on every page and make sure you have your most important keyword or keyphrase in the headline. Search engines treat these tags differently than other parts of your page.

Site map An up-to-date sitemap is a must for every website. This ensures that your website is properly spidered by the search engines and all the pages that you want to be indexed are crawled.

Keywords Keywords and phrases should be used cautiosly. Do not try to stuff your content with irrelevant keywords. Commonsense and readability always wins. Use proper keywords in headlines, images alt tags and in the body of the text.

External links Skyrocket to the top of the search engine results page by securing high quality back links from other websites that are RELATED to your topic. Instead of getting the linking back to your home page, try to get them to your article or content pages with a proper keyword as the anchor text.
