Blogging was once a fad, but not any longer. What was once the dominion of glassy eyed, late night geeks and teenagers is now pretty mainstream.

If you seriously want to earn money online, you need to be blogging. Blog is the abbreviated version of “web log”. They were originally used as a type of online diary for people who wanted to record their thoughts for posterity sake, and share information with friends and the world in general.

When you get serious about making money online, you realize the need to blog. Blogs make it easy to provide vast amounts of content, and information for your sites visitors. This in turn increases your visibility on the web.

The other major reason blogs have become popular with businesses of all kinds, is that they are free to implement. Google’s “Blogger” site is free for anyone with a Google account. They provide what amounts to unlimited storage space for all your thoughts, as well as a place to advertise without any cost.

Internet marketers need to get large numbers of visitors to their web sites. Typically, it can take weeks, even months to get pages indexed. Blogs by comparison are indexed very quickly.

Many Blogger blogs are indexed within a few days. I have actually seen some indexed with a few hours and the faster your site show up in the SERPS (search engine results pages) the faster you can start to earn money online.

Search engines love text. Pretty pictures and graphics are great, but the search engine spiders read text, they live for text. To the crawlers text is everything, and text is something blogs provide in abundance.

Increasing your visibility in the serps, brings more visitors to your site. Some people have blogs without websites. Others use their blogs to compliment their websites. Blogs can promote affiliate programs or Adsense or any other income stream.

Keyword marketing is the best use of a blog. The ability to include large numbers of keywords to drive traffic to sales pages makes a blog an ideal platform. The amount of text gives your site much higher visibility.


The idea is to keep people reading your blog by providing useful information. One accountant that I was speaking to recently uses his blog to provide his clients with information about changes to the tax code and new money strategies. He also is able to offer new services that his customers may find useful, and in turn, grow his business.

As long as your writing about your business, it might as well be online and accessible so that others can read about your business also. The more information you provide, the more visible your site becomes. Its like automatic advertising in a format that search engines love.

You can publish your own well written articles, rich in keywords, to your blog. Include links to your favorite sites, and then ask those sites to include links back to you. This also increases your exposure, visibility and page rank.

You can add a form to collect email addresses or offer and accept product reviews. A blog can be used in the same way that you would use a standard website, except that it is much easier to administer.

You can allow others to post to your blog. This is an extremely powerful feature (although these comments have to be moderated to make sure they are not just spam, and that they stay on topic. This is so powerful because others provide you with content. People who earn money online talk about content being king, and it is. The more and better your content, the more visibility you will have.

What a great idea blogs are for the new business owner. Free to start, and fun and easy to administer.

Some platforms like Googles Blogger are not only free, but can be hosted on Google’s system. Free program, free hosting, unlimited content. Blogger blogs can also be hosted on your own system if you wish. I actually recommend this so that you have more control over the blog.
