Information products are one of the hottest selling items on the Internet. And for good reason. Where else can you get timely, relevant information that is exactly what you want…even at 2 am in the morning?
The Internet has one major advantage over books. Books are usually not specific enough for most people. I don’t want to read a whole book on developing HTML coding and website engineering – I only want to record and edit my presentation so I can sell it online. Finding a book at the bookstore which relates to just this topic could be a long and frustrating experience. But thanks to the wonders of the internet, we can easily find an e-book or video on the internet that can teach me exactly what I need to know.
Another problem with buying information at the book store is that its information is at least one year old. That’s how long it takes to edit a book, send it to a publisher, get it printed and finally placed on the shelves in your local book store. By contrast, an ebook or other information product will usually have the latest, cutting edge info on your topic because they are so easily updated.
I’m often asked, “How can information products boost my internet sales?” Well, start by offering e-books, special reports, videos and interviews – whatever appeals to your customers. But don’t limit yourself. Teleseminars are a great way to access many students at once. Using subscriptions to newsletters or membership sites can make the most of your opportunities with information products.
Are you ready to create your own information product? Great! Let’s get started.
Ask your prospective customers what they want.
This is the most important step in the process. Without a clear idea of what your customers want, you will miss valuable opportunities to meet their needs. Don’t make any assumptions. You are an expert; you’re customer is not. Therefore, they will have different needs, different questions, than you will have.
So, while you are collecting their first name and email, add a custom field that asks their biggest question about your topic. After about 100 email subscribers, you will have a really good idea what it is they are looking for! And you can use that information to write your sales letter as well.
In part 2 of this article, I will share five amazing tips for creating incredibly profitable information products.
