There are some insider secrets to using Google Adwords that can make a huge difference in your ROI - they may even make the difference between being profitable and losing money.

One thing that you must do is target the correct audience when you write your ads. You target by making your ads as exclusive as possible, even down to the language that you want members of your target audience to speak. Targeting is where all success starts.

Another step to take is to really make sure that your keyword selection is as refined as possible. A trick to this is placing [brackets] around your keywords. When you do this, your ad will only come up on sites when the visitor has typed in the precise keyword search phrase that you have placed within those brackets.

If they search for something that includes your keyword in the phrase but has additional words, your ad won’t be displayed. This can help reduce your costs for visitors that are not well targeted.

You should always have more than one ad running, performing a split test to see which one gets the best results. Once you know which one gets the best clickthrough and conversion rate, remove the lower producing one and replace it with yet another variation. Always be testing.




Once your clickthrough is at an acceptable level, you also need to be sure you’re tracking your return on investment (ROI). Adwords doesn’t have the ability to do this in itself, but it can when you add Google Analytics to the mix.

Analytics will let you track conversions from specific ad groups so you can see which groups are profitable, not just getting clicked.

When you write your ads, you should include your keywords in the title and description. When a keyword is in the ad itself, Google highlights it in the results, which can make your ad stand out from the pack.
