The placement and density of your keyword is something you should highly consider when optimizing your articles for the search engines. Search engines send out bots that scan your article in such a way that makes it crucial to position your keywords in spots where they will be noticed and acknowledged as a keyword, so that when a person searches for that keyword, your article will show up in the results.

So what is a keyword?

A keyword is a specific word that you are going to place several times in your article. When a spider detects that you have a certain word posted in your article several times, it will determine that your article is a good resource to browsers that are searching that keyword.

Over optimizing your article

Placing your keyword excessively in your article is called ‘keyword stuffing’. When you practice this method, the spiders will detect that you are trying to manipulate the search engines so that you can rank high for that keyword. When this occurs, your article will get penalized and possibly banned forever from any search engines.

What’s Keyword Density?

Keyword density equals the number of times you’ve placed your keyword in your article. Typically, writers go by a percentage to determine how many times they will place a keyword in their article. Let’s say you wrote a 1000 word article and you want to gain a 4% keyword density; you will need to put your keyword in your article 40 times. My personal preference is to never go less than 3% and no higher than 5% for my keyword density. Keep in mind, you will come across many resources on the web that tell you that you should use ‘x’ amount of percentage than another along with a good reason to go with it, but at the end of the day, it’s your call. Use what works best for you so long as you aren’t keyword stuffing.

The Right Density

Regardless of what amount of density you choose, it’s important to insert keywords in the beginning and ending of the article to produce an hour glass effect. Remember, your article will be a money maker if it has the right amount of keyword density because it will show up high in the search engine results making it highly visible.

If you use the strategies that I’ve mentioned in this article, there is no reason why you shouldn’t gain top search engine rankings. Be sure to submit your articles to multiple directories to gain maximum exposure and dominate the search engine display results.
